Breaking News: Driver Critically Injured After Three-Vehicle Collision on U.S. 15-501 Near Pinehurst
October 22, 2025Moore County, North Carolina — October 21, 2025 — According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Sand Hills Sentinel, a serious crash on U.S. Highway 15-501 left one driver critically injured after their vehicle was struck from behind and pushed into oncoming traffic.

Troopers said the crash happened just south of Cox’s Double Eagle Harley-Davidson when a Honda sedan traveling northbound was rear-ended by a pickup truck. The impact forced the Honda across the centerline, where it collided head-on with a southbound passenger car.
Emergency responders arrived to find the driver of the Honda trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the driver’s side door and free the victim. Officials said the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A medical helicopter was initially requested to transport the patient, but due to an estimated 29-minute response time, paramedics decided to take the driver by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The helicopter was redirected to another regional call.
It was not immediately clear if any of the other drivers involved were taken to the hospital.
A friend of the Honda driver told Sandhills Sentinel that the man had just left the gym and was preparing to turn into his driveway when the crash occurred. According to the friend, “He was fully stopped with his brakes pressed and blinker on, waiting for a safe gap in traffic. He had momentarily unbuckled his seatbelt while stationary, not while moving.”
Troopers remained on the scene for several hours investigating the cause of the collision and reconstructing the sequence of events.
