North Charlotte Head-On Collision Leaves One Dead; Driver Faces Charges

Charlotte, North Carolina — September 24, 2025 — According to WCNC, a tragic crash claimed one life and left another person seriously injured.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Reames Road and Metromont Industrial Boulevard, just off West W.T. Harris Boulevard. According to court filings, Jeffery Wilkes has been taken into custody and is now facing a charge of misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Investigators reported that Wilkes’ vehicle veered across the center line and slammed head-on into another car. The impact killed Carl Canipe Jr., who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police confirmed that a second individual involved in the crash was rushed to a nearby hospital with significant injuries. Medic officials described that person’s condition as serious.
