One Person Killed After Pickup Truck Overturns Onto Car in Cleveland County Crash

Cleveland County, North Carolina — April 13, 2026 — According to WSOC TV, authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred near Cherryville, leaving one person dead and others injured.

Emergency crews responded to Clineland Road, where a pickup truck was found overturned on top of a passenger vehicle. Aerial footage from the scene showed the truck resting across the car following the impact.

According to witnesses, the crash happened as the pickup attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing a double yellow line. As the truck moved into the opposite lane, it collided head-on with an oncoming car.

One witness, who was driving in the area at the time, said the truck driver appeared to notice the approaching vehicle at the last moment and tried to correct course, while the driver of the oncoming car also attempted to avoid the crash. Despite those efforts, the vehicles collided.

Residents nearby reported hearing a loud crash from inside their homes. Some described the sound as similar to a large object being dropped or a dumpster being emptied.

First responders confirmed that all occupants of the passenger vehicle were adults. One individual died at the scene, and two others were transported to the hospital with injuries. One of the injured victims was airlifted for treatment. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.

The three occupants of the pickup truck did not suffer serious physical injuries, though witnesses described them as visibly shaken.

Officials say the driver of the pickup is facing a charge of misdemeanor death by vehicle and was cited for crossing the double yellow line. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident, and additional details may be released as the case develops.
