Fatal Head-On Collision in Harnett County Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

August 16, 2025

Cameron, North Carolina — August 15, 2025 — According to the Sandhills Sentinel and local authorities, a two-vehicle crash left one person injured and another facing impaired driving charges.

The collision occurred on U.S. Highway 1, just south of the N.C. 24-27 intersection. Investigators said a Dodge Charger traveling south struck the back of a Chrysler sedan after the Chrysler slowed down in traffic.

A female passenger in the Chrysler was taken to Moore Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Chrysler was not hurt and drove the car to the hospital to meet the passenger.

Troopers reported that the driver of the Dodge appeared impaired at the scene. The individual was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and booked into the Moore County Detention Center.

The crash temporarily reduced U.S. 1 southbound to a single lane while emergency crews cleared the area. Agencies responding to the scene included the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Moore County EMS, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cypress Pointe Fire Department.

The Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident.
