ABC Permit Holder and Bar Employees Charged After Fatal Harnett County Collision

February 26, 2026

Sanford, North Carolina — February 25, 2026 — According to ABC 11, authorities have filed misdemeanor charges against several individuals connected to a Chapel Hill bar following a deadly crash in Harnett County that claimed the lives of two Fort Bragg soldiers and a local driver.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol previously indicated that alcohol was suspected to have played a role in the early-month collision. According to investigators, a Toyota Camry veered across the center line along the 4600 block of N.C. Highway 87 near Sanford, and struck an oncoming pickup truck.

Bar Employees Charged After Fatal Harnett County Collision

Three soldiers were traveling in the Camry. The driver, 22-year-old Spc. Romeo Mason Fleck, and the rear passenger, Spc. Charles Jackson, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. A third soldier, Aydrian Larusch, survived but sustained critical injuries. The driver of the pickup, William Underwood of Sanford, also died as a result of the crash.

Following a notification from the Highway Patrol, the Alcohol Law Enforcement Division launched a parallel inquiry into whether alcohol service contributed to the incident. Investigators determined that the occupants of the Camry had been served alcoholic drinks earlier that evening at Still Life, a bar and nightclub located on East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.

Authorities allege that at least one individual who was served alcohol at the establishment was under the legal drinking age.

As a result of the investigation, four people associated with the business now face misdemeanor charges. Sharif Abuhatoum, 47, of Greenville, the holder of the establishment’s ABC permit, has been charged with failing to oversee an ABC-licensed location properly.

Three employees were also charged in connection with the alleged alcohol service violations. Cameron Michael Renna, 35, of Morrisville, faces two counts related to selling mixed beverages to a person under 21 and unlawfully furnishing alcohol. Anthony Tameron Wise III, 24, of Fort Bragg, has been charged with two counts of aiding or abetting the purchase of alcoholic beverages by someone underage. Bonnie Zhange, 21, of Asheville, is charged with two counts of selling mixed beverages to an underage individual.

The investigation remains ongoing.
