Hartnett County, North Carolina — December 7, 2025 — According to ABC 11, a violent two-vehicle collision resulted in one fatality and left multiple people injured.

The crash happened along U.S. Highway 301 near Hodges Chapel Road, just south of Benson and close to the Johnston County line. Investigators with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the incident involved a Dodge pickup truck and a Tesla, both of which were heavily damaged in the crash.

Troopers say the woman driving the Tesla was heading south when her vehicle crossed into the opposite lane. The Tesla struck the northbound pickup head-on, causing the truck to roll onto its side. The violent impact trapped the two occupants—a father and his adult son—inside the overturned vehicle.

Emergency responders pronounced the passenger, identified as Danny Wood, dead at the scene. His son, who was driving, was airlifted to WakeMed and remains in critical condition.

The Tesla driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two children who were riding with her were also taken to the hospital as a precaution and are expected to be released.

Highway Patrol officials said charges are anticipated as investigators continue to piece together what led up to the collision. The name of the Tesla driver has not yet been made public.
