Two-vehicle collision on Carthage Road leaves five hospitalized, with significant vehicle damage and debris on the roadway

The crash occurred near the intersection of Union Church Road and Stage Road. Authorities at the scene reported that an eastbound Nissan pickup truck lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a westbound Chevrolet truck.

After the impact, the Nissan left the roadway, overturned, and came to rest on its side several yards from the point of collision. The Chevrolet remained in the roadway, heavily damaged. Debris from both vehicles was spread across the roadway and into the front yard of a nearby home.

All occupants involved were injured. Three people traveling in the Nissan and two individuals in the Chevrolet were transported to Moore Regional Hospital for medical treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

Emergency crews closed Union Church Road between Stage Road and Priest Hill Road while first responders assisted the injured and cleared the scene. Traffic was diverted for more than an hour as damaged vehicles were removed.

Cleanup efforts were extended due to a fuel spill from the Chevrolet truck. The North Carolina Department of Transportation responded with sand to absorb the fuel and make the roadway safe for reopening.

The Carthage Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. The Carthage Fire Department assisted at the scene, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
