July 28, 2025

Charlotte, North Carolina — July 26, 2025 — According to Queen City News, a devastating crash along the outer loop of Interstate 485 claimed six lives, including three young children, according to officials with Medic and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the area between Wilkinson Boulevard and West Boulevard following reports of a severe collision involving multiple vehicles and a parked tractor-trailer.

According to investigators, a Honda CR-V traveling in the middle lane veered into the right lane, striking a Chrysler minivan. The impact forced both vehicles off the road, where they then crashed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the highway shoulder.

Tragically, both passenger vehicles came to rest underneath the trailer. Responders arriving at the scene described the wreckage as nearly unrecognizable, with both cars wedged beneath the trailer and their roofs sheared off. First responders immediately began extrication efforts, but six victims were declared dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as:

  • Logan Paul Sauer, 16, of Mooresville – driver and sole occupant of the Honda CR-V.
  • Samuel Jacob Holmes, 27 – driver of the Chrysler van.
  • Taylor Willis, 23.
  • Brynlon Holmes, 1.
  • Addyson Holmes, 3.
  • Kamron Wood, 8.

A seventh occupant of the van, a 16-year-old girl, was transported to Atrium Main with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed.

Authorities confirmed that the highway was shut down for several hours due to the severity of the incident. While the investigation is ongoing, officials have indicated that no criminal charges are expected in connection with the crash. The North Carolina Department of Transportation and multiple emergency agencies collaborated to coordinate the response.

First responders on the scene of the fatal collision described a chaotic and heart-wrenching situation, with multiple victims trapped and in need of rescue. Emergency radio traffic captured the urgency and gravity of the scene, with responders calling for full gear and noting the scale of the tragedy unfolding.

“This is a heartbreaking incident for everyone involved,” Medic said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and responders impacted by this tragedy.”

Grief counselors and support services are being made available for emergency personnel affected by the traumatic nature of the response.Bottom of Form
