Troopers reported that the collision occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near mile marker 35 on the eastbound side of Highway 22. At the time of the incident, a 2002 Suzuki Vitara, a 2019 Nissan Versa, and a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado were stopped in traffic.

Investigators say a 2018 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound failed to stop and collided with the rear of the Suzuki Vitara. The impact force pushed the Vitara into the Nissan Versa, which then struck the Chevrolet Silverado. The initial impact also caused the Jeep Wrangler to overturn.

The driver of the Suzuki Vitara suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the crash. The drivers of the Jeep Wrangler and the Nissan Versa were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
