Burlington Police: Driver Dies After Two-Vehicle Head-On Crash; Teen Suspect Faces Murder Charge
November 22, 2025Burlington, North Carolina — November 20, 2025 — According to WXII 12, officers responded to the intersection of East Webb Avenue and Flanner Street after receiving reports of a serious two-vehicle wreck involving an Audi and a Chevrolet Blazer. When first responders arrived, they found both drivers trapped inside their vehicles. Emergency crews had to remove each driver before they could be taken for medical care. The driver of the Blazer, later identified as Richard Smith, was critically injured.

Investigators say early findings showed that the Audi, driven by 19-year-old Paige Moore, crossed the center line on East Webb Avenue and struck the Blazer head-on. Surveillance video from nearby businesses helped officers piece together what happened. According to authorities, the footage and additional evidence indicated that Moore was driving in an unsafe and reckless manner and was impaired at the time of the crash.
Police were notified that Smith had died from his injuries. During a Nov. 17 hearing, investigators testified that data from the Audi showed the car reached approximately 65 mph in a 35-mph zone shortly before impact.
A grand jury later returned an actual bill of indictment for second-degree murder.
Moore surrendered to authorities at the Alamance County Magistrate’s Office on Nov. 20 and is now charged with:
- Second-degree murder.
- Driving while impaired.
- Speeding 65 mph in a 35-mph zone.
- Driving left of center.
- Reckless driving.
She is being held without bond at the Alamance County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
