Durham, North Carolina — September 13, 2026 — According to ABC 11, an 18-year-old man died after being hit by another vehicle while checking damage from an earlier crash on South Miami Boulevard, according to the Durham Police Department.

Police said Juan Jose Acevedo Archila had been involved in a collision that left his vehicle disabled in the roadway.

After Archila got out to examine the damage, a 2010 Nissan Sentra driven by 37-year-old Stephen Moore of Manson approached the scene. Moore reportedly told investigators that he tried to stop but lost traction on the rain-covered road.

The Sentra struck Archila and then collided with the disabled vehicle.

Emergency personnel transported Archila to a local hospital. He later died from his injuries.
