Deadly Accident Claims Two Pedestrian’s Lives in Charlotte, North Carolina

Fox 46 reported a deadly accident in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in the 4900 block of E W.T. Harris Boulevard.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, two pedestrians were hit and killed when a truck involved in a crash in east Charlotte overturned onto the sidewalk.

Authorities said the preliminary investigation revealed that a Honda Civic driver was traveling at a “high rate of speed” east on Harris Boulevard when it struck the rear of a Dodge Ram pickup.

In addition to traveling at a high rate of speed, the CMPD suspect the Honda driver to have been impaired at the time of the collision. Neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in the crash for the driver of the Dodge.

Investigators said after the Dodge was hit by the Honda driver, the truck hit the curb and began to overturn along the sidewalk where two pedestrians were walking. Both were struck.

One pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other a short time later at the hospital.

Neither the Honda nor Dodge driver were injured, and both remained on the scene.

The Honda driver was charged with two counts of felony death by motor vehicle, DWI, and reckless driving. He was also charged for having an open container of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and various other traffic offenses.
