Charlotte, North Carolina — July 12, 2026 — According to WCNC, a man has been arrested in connection with a June crash that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl.

Charlotte Driver Arrested

The collision occurred along North Sharon Amity Road. Officers responding to the scene found 17-year-old Angelina Naomi Chicas unresponsive inside a Honda Civic. A Chrysler 300 and its driver were also at the location.

Emergency crews transported Chicas to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, where she later died. The driver of the Chrysler was also hospitalized but was reported to have sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Sheriff’s office records indicate that Roderick Gresham was taken into custody on July 11. He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and speeding in connection with the crash.

Chicas was employed at Manolo’s Bakery, a family-owned Latin American bakery in Charlotte. Following news of her passing, the business shared a heartfelt message expressing the profound impact her loss had on the staff.

In a statement, the bakery described the emotional difficulty of returning to work, saying employees preparing cakes and bread paused throughout the day as they mourned their young coworker, reflecting the deep sadness felt throughout the business.
