Lincoln County, North Carolina, July 9, 2026. According to WBTV and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a fatal head-on collision claimed one life and left another driver seriously injured.

The crash occurred along Highway 27 near Long Circle in the Iron Station community.

Investigators reported that a Ford Expedition traveling west crossed into the opposing lane and collided with an eastbound Volvo. The impact caused the Ford to catch fire.

Emergency crews transported the 52-year-old driver of the Ford by helicopter to a Charlotte hospital for treatment. The driver of the Volvo, identified as 59-year-old Tracy Dale Mosteller, died as a result of the collision.

State troopers continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. Preliminary information indicates that impairment may have been a contributing factor, and authorities have stated that criminal charges are anticipated once the investigation is complete.
