Stanly County, North Carolina — May 28, 2026 — According to WCNC, a fatal two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 52 claimed the life of a local woman and left another driver hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to authorities, the crash occurred near the Northeast Connector outside Albemarle. Emergency responders reported that a northbound vehicle crossed the center line and entered the path of an oncoming southbound vehicle, resulting in a head-on impact.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Tiffany Mauldin, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupant of the southbound vehicle survived the collision but sustained serious injuries. The individual was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials have not released additional information regarding the person’s condition.

Investigators with the Albemarle Police Department are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet announced whether speed, impairment, weather conditions, or other factors contributed to the incident.
