Catawba County, North Carolina – July 2, 2026 – According to AOL and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a crash left five people injured, including three children, after two vehicles collided head-on.

The collision occurred along Old Shelby Road near Oglesby Lane.

Investigators say a 2023 Toyota RAV4 crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming 2017 Toyota Sienna. The driver of the RAV4, 44-year-old Bobbie Sigmon of Hickory, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment.

The Sienna was driven by 35-year-old Lia Vue of Conover, who was transported to UNC Health Blue Ridge with minor injuries. Three children who were passengers in the van were also taken to UNC Health Blue Ridge for medical care. Authorities said one of the children was later flown to Levine Children’s Hospital after the extent of the injuries became apparent.

Troopers have indicated that neither excessive speed nor impairment is believed to have contributed to the collision. The investigation remains active, and officials expect charges to be filed as the case moves forward.
