Johnston County, North Carolina, June 25, 2026 — According to My Fox 8, a head-on collision has resulted in the death of a 79-year-old woman and criminal charges against another driver as investigators continue to examine what led to the crash.

Head-On Collision Claims

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol stated the collision occurred on McLemore Road near Lassiter Farms Lane in the Willow Springs area. Investigators say an eastbound Chevrolet sedan crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet Malibu.

The driver of the Malibu, a 79-year-old Garner woman, died at the scene. Authorities reported that she was wearing a seatbelt and was the sole occupant of her vehicle.

The driver of the eastbound sedan was transported to a Raleigh hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was also wearing a seatbelt and was the only person in her vehicle.

State troopers have charged the surviving driver with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center. Investigators are also analyzing blood evidence and reviewing the driver’s cell phone records to determine whether additional factors may have contributed to the collision.

Officials have stated that neither speed nor alcohol is believed to have played a role. Instead, investigators currently consider inattention and crossing the center line to be the primary contributing factors.

The crash temporarily closed McLemore Road for several hours while emergency crews responded and investigators documented the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
