Lincoln County, North Carolina, June 21, 2026. According to WBTV, two men lost their lives following a devastating head-on crash on Highway 16.

The collision occurred near the intersection of N.C. 16 and Sifford Road. Investigators with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that a pickup truck was traveling in the wrong direction in the southbound lanes when it struck an oncoming vehicle head-on.

The impact force caused both vehicles to erupt into flames. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but both drivers were pronounced dead.

Head-On Collision

Officials identified the pickup truck driver as Alejandro Gutierrez, 33, of Vale. The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Jamar Mishoe, 36, of Concord. Both men died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Preliminary findings indicate that impairment may have been a contributing factor, though the investigation remains ongoing.

The crash prompted the closure of a section of Highway 16 for several hours while emergency crews extinguished the fire, documented the scene, and removed the damaged vehicles. Traffic in the area was disrupted for more than three hours before the roadway reopened.

Wrong-way crashes are relatively uncommon but often result in severe or fatal injuries because of the high-speed, head-on nature of the impacts. Authorities continue to examine the events leading up to the collision as they work to determine exactly what occurred.
