Pitt County, North Carolina, July 6, 2026. According to WITN, a man is facing multiple charges after authorities say a crash at a rural intersection claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl and seriously injured two others.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at the intersection of County Home Road and Warren Jones Road.

Investigators allege that Jaime Santiago, of Ayden, was driving a pickup truck south on Warren Jones Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign before entering the intersection. His vehicle collided with an SUV traveling west on County Home Road.

The SUV was driven by 35-year-old Kelli Toler. Her 6-year-old daughter, Calli, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toler and her 4-year-old son were both transported to ECU Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

Following the crash, Santiago was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to stop for a stop sign, careless and reckless driving, and driving while his license was revoked.

Court documents reportedly indicate that Santiago was considered a flight risk due to having been deported three times previously. He remains in custody under a $100,000 secured bond.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist the Toler family as they cope with the tragic loss and ongoing recovery.
